Although our general pest control treatment is designed to keep ants out of the house for up to 6 months, if you have a serious and problem you need a specialised ant treatment.
We have a range of specialist treatments depending on the nature of the ant infestation and the species present.
All of our treatments are designed to eliminate the source of the problem by killing the nest.
Although we often use a combination of products to get the best results, ant baits are the key products to eliminate the colony.
Ant baits consist of an attractive food matrix and slow acting insecticide. Ants feed on the bait, taking it back to the nest where it is fed to the queen and other nest mates. It can take several days to kill the whole colony.
How we get rid of Indoor ants...
Our indoor treatments are designed for ants that are nesting inside the building (in the wall void or roof cavity) or are coming in from outside.
To completely eliminate ant infestations, we will use a combination of baits and dusts inside and use sprays around the external perimeter of the building to prevent ants entering.

How we get rid of outdoors ants and lawn ants...
Outdoor ant problems tend to be either an infestation impacting hard surfaces (such as pavers) or a problem with lawn ants.
For ant problems in pavers we will use a combination of baits and sprays. This will eliminate the ants present and prevent them digging up dirt between the pavers.
For lawn ants we more commonly use bait products. It can take 1-2 weeks for the nests to be eliminated.
For some species of outdoor ants it may be necessary to have regular treatments, as ants from neighbouring properties will start to re-invade treated areas after a period of time.

Types of Ants in Canberra and NSW
The most common ants we deal with inside homes are the two types of black ants – the white footed ant and the common house ant.
Outside the home we often deal with biting ants in lawns such as the green-head ants. Homeowners also have problems with big-headed ants (coastal brown ants), which like to dig up dirt under paths and pavers as they build their nests.
Occasionally we have problems with larger sugar ants coming inside and bull ants outside.
Despite what you may see on other websites, we do not have red imported fire ants in Canberra (currently only in Queensland). If you see a website suggesting red imported fire ants are in Canberra, they are not an ant expert and have probably copied the information from another website.

Does pest control get rid of ants?
Professional pest control is often the best way to get rid of ants. Most homeowners struggle to get rid of ants because they can’t identify the type of ant, do know enough about their biology and behaviour, and can’t access the specialist products to deliver results.
To provide lasting ant pest control it is generally necessary to eliminate the nest. To do so successfully requires an understanding of ant behaviour and to be able to access and use the correct ant bait.
How does ant bait work?
Ant baits are made up of a attractive food and slow acting insecticide. The food attracts foraging ants and causes them to take the food back to the nest where it is fed to other members of the colony. The insecticide needs to be slow acting so it gets passed around the nest before it starts to have an effect.
Baits are a great ant pest control product to eliminate nests, as you don’t actually have to find the nest – the ants do all the work for you! As soon as the ant bait is fed to the queen, the colony is doomed and the nest is eliminated.
However, the challenge in successfully using ant baits is using the correct bait for the type of ant present (different ants like different foods), knowing where to place the bait and applying enough bait for the size of nest.
How much does pest control cost for ants?
Ant pest control treatments can vary in price and depends on the location of the infestation, the type of ant present and the size of the infestation. Prices can start at around $200 for small properties / infestations and can rise to $500 or more for treatment of large properties or large areas of lawn. Sometimes the type of ant present and level of infestation will mean that regular treatments will be required to keep the ant numbers down.
